The weather in Alaska can be unpredictable, we recommend dressing in layers to ensure you’re comfortable throughout your fishing adventure. Sturdy shoes with good traction, a hat, sunglasses, camera, and any personal food/snacks or drinks are also recommended. An Alaska Fishing license is required for all non-Alaskan resident anglers 16 and older and all Alaska resident anglers 18 and older. We provide all necessary fishing gear and bait.

Yes, the boat has life jackets for all ages aboard. It is not required to wear a life jacket on the water, but we do recommend it for young children, for added peace of mind.

Our half-day charters are typically 6 hours. Please arrive 30 minutes prior to your departure time for check-in and safety briefing. Please allow yourself extra time to find parking prior to check-in time at the boat. Departure time specifics will be provided upon booking.

Safety is our top priority. If the captain deems the weather conditions to be unsafe for fishing, we will cancel the trip and offer you a full refund or the option to reschedule.

The primary target is halibut, but occasionally other sport fish are caught as well. The crew is there to help identify what is legal to keep and good to eat!

Yes, you can keep the fish you catch within the legal limits set by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game and International Pacific Halibut Commission. We provide halibut cleaning and filleting services.

Our trips are suitable for individuals 6 years old and up. Children under 15 must be accompanied by an adult. We recommend that guests be in reasonable health and mobility to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.

What is the cost of the trip and what does it include?

Half-day halibut charter are $215-225 per person, plus taxes and fees. This includes all fishing gear, bait, and tackle, as well as halibut cleaning services. Gratuities for the crew are appreciated but not included in the price.

Can we bring our own food and drinks?

Accepted Answer

Yes, you are encouraged to bring any food and beverages you would like for the trip as we do not have any available for purchase onboard. Responsible alcohol consumption is acceptable; however, this is a family friendly trip and the captain and crew maintain the right to uphold this standard for the safety of all passengers.

Please avoid glass containers for safety reasons.

Is seasickness common and what can I do to prevent it?

Seasickness can happen, especially if you are not used to being on the water. We recommend taking motion sickness medication before departure if this is a concern. Please consult your doctor for recommendations.

What happens if we don't catch any fish?

While our experienced captain and crew do their best to find fish, we cannot guarantee a catch. However, the adventure and experience of being on the water are always enjoyable.

The Spirit can comfortably accommodate up to 26 anglers on our half-day charters. We aim to provide a personalized and enjoyable experience for everyone on board.

How do I get my fish home?

The crew will fillet and bag your halibut by the time we return to the Homer Harbor. Homer Fish Processing will be at the dock upon arrival, if you chose to have your fish taken to be processed. They provide a variety of services, from vacuum packing and freezing to shipping your fish home for you, we recommend checking their website and contacting them for specifics about processing and shipping.

Processed and frozen fish can either be shipped home or taken as luggage on the plane. Both the crew and individuals at the fish processing facilities can provide further recommendations on this option.
